(6) Au-Pair Update: Jan/Feb

Yayyyy! I reached the six months mark! How exciting! I can’t believe I am away from home for already six months.

It was a quiet month with one big highlight which I am going to tell you about in this update. So, the thing is, that I started writing this update on the plane to Los Angeles and read over it one day after I came back from my trip. Don’t be confused when I tell you I am excited for LA and in the next paragraph I am telling you how awesome it was. Two different days 🙂

I can’t believe I am already in Canada for six months. Crazy. Just four more months left.

At the moment I am sitting in a plane heading to Los Angeles and I am so excited. My first big trip planned and organized by myself (and my friend of course!) and definitely one of the big highlights here so far.

I can’t wait to see what the next few days will bring.

Hopefully a lot of sunshine, warm temperatures and cool adventures 😊

I have to say I feel like I fully arrived now. I feel very comfortable with my host family and my friends and the city where I live. I am not super sad anymore and don’t really miss my family.

It is such a strange feeling because it feels like I arrived just a few weeks ago and now more than the half is already over.

My family is coming to visit me next month which is super exciting and I can’t wait to show them where I’ve been living the last six months.

Also, which is very important for how I feel at the moment, is that it’s getting warmer and it felt like spring a few times already. I bought tulips and spent a lot of time being outside, at the beach and tried to get as much sun as possible. Probably not a big deal  for a lot but I need the sun and spring is my favorite season, so I am super thrilled.

It was a pretty quite month. We prepared and organized a lot for our LA trip and I spent a lot of time watching Gilmor Girls (it’s the truth) and discovering new trails I can go for a walk by myself or with our dog. My biggest discovery was the beach access just ten minutes away from my home. I am still in heaven!

I signed up for my nearest gym and went to a Pilates Class for the first time which was a huge step. It took me a lot of courage to go there but I am glad I did it because I really enjoy doing it.

We also watched a hockey game (finally again) and had, as always, a lot of fun ☺️

And then, of course, Los Angeles. I am adding this section after I am back home, of course. I came back home yesterday night and I can’t believe I was in Hollywood just one night ago. It was amazing. I already wrote a blog post about our trip and you can check it out right here ☺️

This month I realized that I have just a few months left with my girls and that I will not see them every day after that anymore which is a strange feeling. I know, it’s obvious but somehow I didn’t really realize or wanted to realize it.

I definitely want to do more crafts with them again and I want to try entertaining them as much as possible and make them have fun as much fun as possible.

I will also try to be more patient. I think I am actually a pretty patient person but sometimes I get pretty unpatient with my kids, especially when we are in rush.

To be honest I don’t really know what I can tell you new about my host parents except  that our relationship is still really good and I like and appreciate them a lot. I am super happy staying with them and they are such good people.

I saved some money for LA and didn’t spend a lot on random stuff which I am really happy about. Of course, our LA trip wasn’t cheap, at least for us as Au-Pairs, but I think that’s okay. We will be there together for probably just once and we want it to be a perfect memory ☺️

I feel a little bit stuck, to be honest. I just don’t know how I could possibly improve my English anymore because it for sure has to be improved but I just don’t know how. I am talking in English all day long, watch series and read books in English, what else can I do?

I have to say though that I went through some of my old instagram stories where I talked in front of the camera and the thing which has improved is for sure my fluency. I speak way more fluent and I can describe words better if I can’t remember the correct vocabulary.

I was so happy when I finished When We Collided. Just one book, I know and I have no clue why I am not reading more. Now would be the time where I have time for it but I can’t make myself picking up a book. Do you have any tips for me???

At the moment I am just excited for my LA trip. Can’t think of anything else but my host family is going skiing next month and I think I am going to join them which I am super excited for.

Also, I am excited for better weather, doing more sports and that my family comes for visit, not for the next update but for the following one ☺️

i m p r o v e m e n t – i m p r o v a b l e

  • Being more patience with my host kids
  • Getting back into a routine
  • I really really have to go to bed earlier. Why is it so difficult?!

  • I definitely got more out of my comfort zone. I went to the gym and to one Pilates class by myself and that made me happy 🙂
  • I got way more organized. Since I started my little bullet journal and make a plan and a to-do list for every week, I feel a lot more productive, have a better overview and feel a lot better.

It’s a wrap! 1170 words later and I’ve summed up my sixth month as an Au-Pair in Canada. Can’t believe I’ve already came so far.

If you have any questions, thoughts or ideas let me know in the comments below or dm me on Instagram.

Thank you for taking your time and see you in my next post!
