(9) Au-Pair Update: Apr/May

This is my second last Update…am I allowed to get a bit emotional? Because I am very emotional these past few days. I just cannot believe my Au-Pair year is almost over. It has always been a dream and now soon it’s just going to be a memory. Very dramatic, I know but please allow me to be dramatic in this post because it’s one of the last Au-Pair Updates I‘ll upload. So, my friends, let‘s jump into this second last Update.

I‘ve been feeling great. And with great I mean great. I am so incredibly happy here and it is hard to imagine having to leave soon.

A lot happend this month and I think that made this 9th month so special as well. I was busy all the time and felt very good with everything I was doing.

I had a blast with my host kids and my host parents and I feel with spring finally arriving made everything even more amazing.

Like I mentioned before, I had a pretty busy and exciting month.

I was working day and night on my application portfolio for a study course and I got it done well in time which made myself a little proud, to be honest 🙂

Now please cross your finger for me that they’ll like it!

Then I had to pack for Seattle because my dear friend and I spontaneously decided to go on a quick trip to Seattle and it was SO cool. We had a blast and I am so so in love with the city. Seattle is amazing and I can recommend everyone to go there. I uploaded two blog posts about our trip. You can find them here and here.

Since my host family went on holiday a little bit before me I was nominated as out dog sitter. I had our dog for a few days and it may sound strange but I feel like our relationship grew even stronger. I‘ve always taken him out for walks but I don’t know, he was so much more cuddly and lovely and didn’t want to leave my side. I know, totally random but it means a lot to me. You know how dearly I always wished for a dog and now I have one here in Canada 🙂

The probably biggest event was my trip to Maui, Hawaii. Just a few days after Seattle I was headed to Seattle again but this time to catch my flight to Maui. I was a bit nervous about flying by myself but it was no problem at all!

And okay, everyone always says how amazing Hawaii is and bla bla bla and of course I imagined it to be super beautiful but my expectations were surpassed.

Maui is the most beautiful place I‘ve ever been. The ocean, the beaces, the heat, the palmtrees…just everything makes this place so peaceful and magical and I cannot express how grateful I am for the fact that my host family took me with them. If you should ever be reading this, thank you 🙂

It was in the middle of the night when I arrived in our hotel and when I woke up the next morning, my two host kids came and hugged me and the little one told me over and over again how much she missed me. Guys, my heart was bursting. All the love.

We had such a good time at the pool and beach and it was so fun hanging out with my host parents. They are amazing. So funny and caring and I couldn’t ask for better ones.

Okay, here we go again with being emotional 🙂

Btw, I am currently sitting in the plane which will bring me back home, so this vacation is over now but it was one of the best I ever had.

I love my two girls so much and we had so so much fun in Hawaii. They are getting so big and when I think about having to say goodbye to them, my heart is already a bit crying.

I am going to enjoy this last months with all my heart and I will plan some special things and activities for them to make the last weeks extra special 🙂

Like I said before, in my opinion I couldn’t have choosen any better host parents. They are so nice and caring and funny and I like that I can talk with them about everything and that we are always open to each other. They are also very generous and I feel very honored that they have choosen me as their Au-Pair.

I cannot imagine not living with them and I know, I‘ve probably said this sooo many times in this post but I am alrwady getting so emotional. Gosh, I will miss them all so much.

Ohhhh welllll…I spend SO much money on my portfolio…the shipping costs to Germany were humongously high and I was a bit shocked but it had to be sent. Good that I bought my new summer outfits before 😀

I am feeling pretty confident with speaking english and of course, I still make mistakes and it is far away from being perfect but I can now speak fluently without thinking too much about how to put together my next sentences. It comes naturally now 🙂

My reading situation is quite good at the moment. I feel like with spring and summer arriving I feel more pleasure in reading a book again and that makes me so happy!

I finished 180 Seconds yesterday and am on to reading Swear On This Life now.

My instagram account though makes me a little bit sad at the moment because I feel like my pictures and texts get less engagement even though I am working hard on new posts. But, oh well, I think everyone will get to a point like this sooner or later and I will just continue with what makes me happy, I guess 🙂

  • I think I still have to work a little bit on not to overthink because that‘s what my head likes to do 🙂

  • I am feeling pretty happy with myself right now and I feel like I learned how to appreciate things more. This year abroad helped me for sure discover myself more and the person I want to be 🙂

It’s a wrap! 1214 words later and I’ve summed up my 9th month as an Au-Pair in Canada. Can’t believe I really came so far already.
