TRAVEL GUIDE: Vancouver, BC

As some of you might know, I spend my Au-pair year living close to Vancouver. I spent the first three days after my arrival there and came back a few times after. When my family came for a visit, a month ago, we spent the first week exploring Vancouver and we had such a good time.

So, today I wanted to share what we did in Vancouver and what you should definitely do when you are there for a visit because it’s definitely worth it!

Vancouver Art Gallery

I love love love art galleries and so I convinced my family to go to the Vancouver Art Gallery with me. It was really nice and they had a good, little collection of art and an interesting exhibition of Takashi Murakami. They don’t have this one anymore but  instead an architecture one which seems really interesting too! If you want to know more about our visit, then you can go and check out my Art Gallery post.

Vancouver Lookout

We did the Vancouver Lookout as a part of our city tour. It was very cool going up there and having an overview over the city. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t that goof but I can imagine that you will have an incredible view with sun and a clear sky.

Vancouver Aquarium

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to join my family when they went to the aquarium because of a major headache. Thanks for that, brain. Luckily, my dear sister sent me a few pictures and allowed me to share them on my blog. They loved it there and it is for sure worth a visit!

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is definitely a must see when in Vancouver. It is the prettiest place during spring and summer time and there is lots to see and do when you are in the park, like the aquarium or the totem park. It is also the perfect place when you just want to go for a stroll and have a nice, relaxing walk.

Totem Park

The Totem Park is definitely a perfect place to stop while being in Stanley Park. For me, Totem Poles were always a part of Canada and I always find it interesting to learn about different cultures and histories. So, the Totem Park is the perfect spot for learning a bit of Canadas background. Plus, they are gorgeous! You just have to see them once in your lifetime with your own eyes.

Whistler

I wrote more about our Whistler trip in this post. So, for more details head over there 🙂 But I can definitely recommend going to Whistler when you are around Vancouver. It is the place where you can experience the Canadian nature to its fullest.

Granville Island

Granville Island was definitely the coolest spot in Vancouver. Everywhere you will find old industry buildings and in the middle a big public market with an amazing atmosphere and delicious food. My macaroon dreams definitely came true. Big big recommendation!!

IMG_4312Walking around the streets

Probably my biggest recommendation. Just walk around and explore by yourself. Like this you will get a feeling for the city and discover your own special little spots. They are most of the time better than what is recommended in the travel guides 🙂

That’s it! Wow, I would have never thought that a travel guide could take so much time but I just hope you like it and that I can help you a little bit and give you an idea of how amazing Vancouver is.

Feel free to leave me feedback and I hope to see you in my next post! 🙂

xo, Franziska
