Blog Anniversary Q&A

I can’t believe this page exits for already one year now. Today, exactly one year ago, I published my first blog post and since then so much has changed. I am lived in another country, I myself changed a lot and I met so many new people and reached so many milestones.

Thank you so much for always sticking around with me. That means a lot and I adore you all so much. Thank you for everything.

You can check out my first blogpost right here.

But now, let’s jump into this Q&A 🙂

Blogging/Instagram Q&A

How do you come up with inspiration for photos?

My biggest inspiration sources are Instagram and Pinterest. I love scrolling through other people’s Instagram feeds but also through my own which might sound odd maybe. The others help me to continuously improve my pictures and create something new every time. Scrolling through my own pictures helps me to keep up my style and don’t forget what Books and Peonies is about.

I like Pinterest because every time I scroll through the pictures, I feel inspired immediately. It’s such a pleasing website.

How do you edit your pictures?

I once published a blog post about my editing progress and it is pretty much the same I still do.

I use VSCO for filter and brightness, contrast, color and grain. Sometimes I use Snapseed to repair a single spot on the picture or to just make specific part brighter.

And that’s it, actually. I take all my pictures with my iPhone 6s, if you were wondering but I hope I will buy a camera soon!

You can find my blog post about how I edit my pictures right here.

What is your favorite blog post you have done?

That is a very interesting question. I think my favorite posts are my Travel Diaries/Guides just because they mean so much to me. All the memories I connect with them makes them so special and I love making these posts.

You can find two of my favorites right here and here.

Do you have any tips for someone who is just starting out blogging?

My tip would be to concentrate on one topic at first. For example books. Try it out for some time and then you’ll see if it suits you or not. Maybe you realize after some time that you don’t want to write just about this one topic and you can add new ones or let the old one behind.

It’s important that you blog about something you feel passionate about and not something which will get you lots of clicks and likes. It will be so much more authentic and your readers will know if you write about something you are actually interested in or not.

What are your favorite authors?

My favorite authors are Donna Freitas, Colleen Hoover and Jennifer L. Armentrout.

What do you like about them?

Donna Freitas’s book The Survival Kit always meant a lot to me. I’ve read it years and years ago and it gave me so much strength. Survival Kits are now a big part of my life now and I am never getting tired of reading her book over and over again.

In my opinion, Colleen Hoover writes the best love stories. The kind of ones where you can’t put the book away and fall in love with the characters and storyline on the first page. I can’t wait for her new book to come out in less than a month!!

Jennifer L. Armentrout gave me SO much with The Problem With Forever. She created a character with which I could identify myself with. I’ve never had that before. Madison reminded me so much of myself and the book filled me with hope and strength. Guys you have to read it. Also, the Lux series is my everything!! Give me Daemon pLEASE.

How many books do you read per month?

Not as many as you might think…I would say approximately 2-3 a month…of course sometimes it’s more, sometimes less but I am okay with it 🙂

How do you find your “theme”?

I would say you have to be clear about what you like. Do you like colorful pictures or more one colored ones? Do you like it minimalistic or with lots of details? Do you like outdoor pictures or inside ones?

My tips would be to stick to your theme and don’t change it all the time because that is what makes it uneven sometimes. Also make sure you edit all your pictures with the same setting. It will help your pictures fit together.

Is there something you wish you knew before starting a blog?

I would say that you should have in mind that it takes time to build up a community. Usually it takes time until more people see your blog, comment and like. It doesn’t happen over night and you have to be patient. But if you are passioned about the things you write about then I don’t see a problem because people will see how happy they make you and that will make them want to read more.

How did you decide you wanted to start a blog?

I always loooved reading other blogs, so one day I decided to start my own. At first it was called Enter My Wonderland and I wrote mostly about fashion and beauty. I loved doing it and I would like to include more fashion posts again because that is something I am interested in but it didn’t make me happy back then and I could’nt really reach people.

So, then I started to do a book only blog, called Umgeben von Büchern (surrounded by books) which I loved a lot.

But as I reached more and more poeple on instagram I wanted to create something which everyone can understand and here we are on Books and Peonies 🙂

So you can see it’s not always a straight line. It was a long way to get here 🙂

The best/worst experience of being part of this community?

I would say until now I just had good experiences in being part of this bookstagram community. I love that you can meet new people who are passionate about the same things as you are and it is a very nice and friendly community 🙂

What is your blog writing/posting routine?

It varies every week, I would say but I usually try to upload 1-3 posts a week and always about two days in between, so I have time to write them and also people don’t get spammed with my posts.

Blogging besties?

There are so many amazing blogs and bloggers out there and I am going to name some which really inspire me at the moment down below.

Which character of a book would you like to meet in real life?

I think it would be Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. I would love love love talking to her, listening to her stories and how it is to live in her time.

Which Harry Potter House are you?

Unfortunately, I haven’t finished the Harry Potter series yet…I know, shame on me but as soon as I will, I will let you know what the hat said 😀

Personal Q&A

What is your favorite place/city out of all the ones you’ve traveled so far?

Maui. Through and trough. Like I said in one of my last posts, Hawaii was the place where I felt the most alive. It’s so magical and truly a paradise. If you get the chance to go there, do it. You will not regret it!

Favorite type of music?

I am so bad in music genres but I love music which feels like it’s written for me only. I like pop songs but also classical music and movie soundtracks.

My current favorites are Gone by JR JR, Sober Up by AJR and Unwritten by Natasha Bendingfield.

Who inspires your fashion style?

Aww Karen, thank you so much for this amazing question! I love dressing myself and finding cute fashion pieces in the store. My inspiration is Pinterest, for sure and bloggers like Amber Fillerup (barefoorblonde.com), Tess Christine and Kristin Johns.

What is your favorite dish to prepare?

At the moment I have to say I would die for avocado toast with eggs and tomatoes. It’s SO basic but soo good!! Or everything which includes potatoes. I loVE potatoes.

What is your favorite dish to eat out?

I love going out for pasta or gelato!! Basic again but I am a big fan of Italian food.

I really hope you liked this Q&A and thank you to everyone who asked me questions.

I hope to see you in my next post!

xo, Franziska
