FITNESS HACKS: workout clothes, at-home workouts & setting priorities right

Before we get into my Fitness Hacks, I want to stress that I am not a professional in any way. Most of the time I don’t know myself what I am doing. The thing is, we don’t have to be personal trainers to enjoy working out or giving someone else tips. I live a very normal life and like most people, I don’t have time to go to the gym five times a week and that is totally fine. With this blog post I want to talk about what works for me and what might also work for you but not necessarily.

Okay, just wanted to make this clear but now,  let’s get into the blog post.

WORK OUT IN THE MORNING

The reason why I love to work out in the morning (or early afternoon) is that I can tick the little word gym off my to-do list right at the beginning of the new day. It makes me feel productive, plus I am way more motivated in the morning versus the evening. Also, working out in the morning is my way of avoiding people staring at me because the gym is always SO packed at night.

WEAR CUTE WORKOUT CLOTHES

Probably best hack ever. Every time I wear cute clothes to my gym or out for runs, my motivation reaches a much higher level which as a result makes me work out a lot more productive. It’s so important to feel confident in what you are wearing and to not worry about way too tight leggings.

GET YOURSELF SOMEONE WHO CREATES A FITNESS PLAN FOR YOU

When I signed up for a gym membership at my local gym, a personal trainer asked me about my fitness goals and based on them, put together a workout plan. It was included in my membership, so I would definitely recommend asking at your local gym if they do the same for you. Especially at the beginning, it feels nice when someone capable helps you with figuring out a routine or simply shows you how everything works.

SAVE MONEY AS A STUDENT

Let’s be real, maintaining a fitness routine can be very expensive. Especially classes, like yoga or pilates, can easily add up to a lot of money.

My advice: always look at the program your Uni/College or school offers. Most of the time, the classes they offer are way cheaper, if not for free. I am doing a yoga class at my Uni for free and it’s so good!

Your Uni might also have a gym you can join for little money and if not, then ask for student prices at your local gym. Most of the time they offer a discount for students because let’s be real, which student can pay 70 Euros per month for a gym membership?!

10 MINUTES ARE BETTER THAN NOTHING

For the longest time, I didn’t do any at-home workouts because I felt like they wouldn’t do anything anyway. That might be right. You won’t get a sixpack overnight but better do a 10 minutes at-home ab workout than nothing. It’s good for your overall health and the feeling afterwards is so worth it. Also, even if 10 minutes don’t sound like a lot, some of the workouts I did are super hard and you are definitely sore the next day (which, hands down, is actually the best and worst feeling at the same time, right?)

WORKOUT BLISS WITHOUT WORKING OUT 

Now that the new semester started, my time is very limited. I usually go for runs and to the gym during the weekend and so I had to find a way to feel good without working out during the week.

Things that worked for me:

x Lots of water and veggies

x Waking up at the same time every day

x Getting fresh air by walking to Uni

x 10 Minutes at-home workouts

SET YOUR PRIORITIES RIGHT

Like I mentioned before, most of us aren’t personal trainers. We don’t have time to spend hours at the gym which is totally okay. That’s why it is important to set your priorities right and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. For me, my family/ friends and my education are the first priority and if I don’t find the time to work out three times a week, then it’s fine. It’s supposed to be fun and I don’t want to get to a point where I a) feel like I HAVE to work out and b) where my relationships and grades suffer from it. A big no-no for me.
