It’s the little things in life, a phrase I live by. I love little moments and things as they make life so beautiful and special. That’s also the reason why I love little daily habits. It doesn’t seem like they do much but let me tell you, they definitely do. They make my day less stressful, more enjoyable, and overall more at peace. If you are interested to learn more about the power of habits, I can highly recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. Loved this book so much!
But without further ado, let me tell you about my daily habits.
Journaling
I’ve been journaling for over ten years now. Back in elementary school, I started writing down my thoughts and what my day looked like. It’s actually one of my favorite things to go back through old journals and see how much I’ve grown as a person and how different life is now.
I still love journaling and do it almost every day as it helps me to organize my thoughts and see that things aren’t as bad as I make them up in my mind.
Meditation
Besides journaling, mediation has been in my life for quite some time now. I think I did the Headspace Basics course about six years ago for the first time. After that, I signed up for the pro version and have been enjoying it ever since. It’s so much fun to see how much the app has evolved. Now, they have mindful moments, workouts, yoga sessions, focus music, sleep casts, group meditations, and meditations for every single situation you could think of.
Every time I am about to go to bed or feel very overwhelmed, I automatically start counting my breaths which just shows me that the whole concept really has become a part of my daily life.
Eat a lot of fruits
Eat. Your. Fruits. I thought to include this because I feel so much better when I eat a good amount of fruits each day. Let this be your little reminder to go into your kitchen and get an apple, orange, or any other kind of fruit before you finish reading this blog post.
Use a reusable water bottle/straws
This should be a no-brainer. It’s so much better for the environment to use a reusable water bottle and I noticed that I drink a lot more water if I carry my water bottle with me around all day. So, get yourself a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated!! (Organic Basics has a great one: Bottle. You can use PEOOBC4 for 10% off)
Get fresh air: Go for a run/walk
You know the drill. I love spending as much time outside as possible. It doesn’t matter if it’s a walk or a run. Both make me feel a lot calmer, help me destress and enjoy the little moments. Highly recommed getting some fresh air and sunshine every day.
10.000 steps a day
Okay, I am definitely not hitting this ‘goal’ every single day but when I do, I feel very great and definitely tried out at night. If you are bored by walking in silence, maybe try to listen to a podcast or an audiobook or go for a walk with a friend (with a distance of course!).
Get ready in the morning
Especially with studying and working from home, it’s so important to get ready, put on an outfit, brush your teeth and do your skincare in the morning (read more about my morning routine here). Getting ready in the morning is key to having a productive day, at least for me. I feel fresh and ready to tackle whatever is on my to-do list for the day.
Use a to-do app
Speaking of to-do lists: I have no idea what I would do without my to-do lists. I have always been a person who has a to-do list for every little part of their lives (okay, not every but you know what I mean) and I feel a lot calmer if I know exactly what I need to get done.
For this year, I decided to use a planner where I write down all my appointments, tasks whatsoever, as well as a Google calendar and my to-do app on my phone. I have a to-list for daily tasks which I update every day and another list for weekly tasks. My system is very simple but it works and like I said, helps me stay on top of things and organized.
Morning clean-up
My morning clean-up session is so important to start the day on the right note. By clean-up, I mean make your bed, pick up clothes from the ground, clean your workspace and make your space ready for the upcoming day. When my space is cluttered and disorganized I cannot concentrate on my to-do list and my work which is why my morning clean-up is so essential.
Listen to a news podcast
I started listening to Was jetzt? and Lage der Nation last year and am a big fan of both podcasts. I like being informed, both podcasts provide a good overview of what is going on in the world and give me the chance to confidentially participate in conversations.
Stretch your muscles
After every stretching session I ask myself why I don’t do that more often. Stretching feels so good, helps me destress and find back into the present moment.
End your day with a book
Recently I’ve been reading a lot more and have been loving it. I have no idea why but a few months ago I got so bored by the idea of lying in my bed and reading in the quiet. Now, I love ending my day in the quiet, reading a book, drinking a cup of tea even if I just manage to read a few pages. It also makes me feel a lot better if I don’t spend the last hour of my day on social media.
That’s a wrap! What is your favorite habit you do every day?
Have a great rest of your week and talk to you soon, Franziska
This is so true, it always ends up being the small moments that mean so much more!

Yes, totally agree :))
Have a lovely week! ♥️
This is such a great list of daily habits 🙂 I love Headspace and have been using it for quite a while now. Besides the meditation courses, I absolutely love the sleepcasts and use one pretty much every night before bed. I always find that I’ve fallen asleep before the story even finishes x
