Book Review: The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

The Kiss Quotient: Synopsis

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases–a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice–with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but to crave all the other things he’s making her feel. Soon, their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

The Kiss Quotient: First Sentence

“I know you hate surprises, Stella. In the interests of communicating our expectations and providing you a reasonable timeline, you should know we’re ready for grandchildren.”

The Kiss Quotient: My Opinion

My gosh, guys, this book.

I just finished The Kiss Quotient a few minutes ago and had to write my review right away. I am in awe with this story. With the characters. With everything.

I went into the story with great expectations since I heard so many positive reviews about Helen Hoang‘s book and therefore was a little scared that the book wouldn’t meet them. But that was, obviously, not the case.

I read a lot of romance novels and most of the time they are all similar. Same plot, same characters, slightly different course of events. Not with The Kiss Quotient. The whole story is so different and so much better.

So, basically, the main character Stelle wants to get more experienced in dating, sex and everything which goes with it. Therefore she orders an escort and that’s when we meet Michael. Michael, oh Michael. I think, I found my new book boyfriend. He is amazing. He is so kind, sexy, lovely and patient with Stella which are qualities I appreciated so much about him. He is the perfect match for Stella and there couldn’t have been a better person for her.

When you love someone, Michael, you fight for them in every way you know how.

This Kiss Quotient, p. 275

Stella is a perfect main character and I loved her right from the beginning. She is so refreshing. Everything about her is admirable and special. You might think that the fact that she is autistic, makes her different or that you will feel a lot of pity for her while reading but that was not the case. Of course, she is different but she is so good in everything she is doing. She is so smart and lovely and that’s why I admired her so so much. Even though she has this sickness, she is herself and does the things which brings her happiness.

She wasn’t a robot or a disabled autistic girl. She was herself. She was enough. She could be anything. She could make herself into anything. She could prove everyone wrong.

The Kiss Quotient, p. 268

Michael and Stella are perfect for each other and very soon they discover how strong their connection got over time. Sometimes I wanted to give them a little push when they were so hung up in their thoughts and worries but everything happened in the right time.

Every page of The Kiss Quotient was dedicated to them. You probably know the books where, besides the love story, the characters have to deal with family, friends and work drama as well and it was such a nice change that they had this whole book for their story. Nonetheless you got to know enough about their family and work life and everything felt right.

It was the perfect mixture. The perfect book.

I am so so in love.

Another important point which I loved is that the author herself, Helen Hoang, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2016 which gave her the idea to write this book and create Stella as a main character. I always love knowing the background and what inspired the book since it makes the story more unique.

Okay, one last point: If you are looking for a hot-but-still-filled-with-lots-of-love-read, The Kiss Quotient is perfect. Just saying.

Again, it was the perfect mixture and my absolute favorite book of the year.

The Kiss Quotient: Summary

What else can I say than that I would buy you all the book if I had enough money, just so you would read it. Seriously, if you were thinking about getting The Kiss Quotient, do it. You will not regret it at all. You will love it.

If you’ve already read it, tell me what you think! I am dying to fangirl with someone else about it!

The Kiss Quotient Rating: 5/5 ★
