First apartment tour: How I made 17m² my home

My first apartment and my forever love for interior things

For my very first blog post, I thought I’d finally show you my very first own apartment. I moved in last October and it was one of my biggest goals to make it my second home. My own little safe space of peacefulness, books, plants and cosiness.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always been into interior things. I moved my furniture ridiculously many times, thought of different themes for my room (once I made a jungle room with little lianas hanging from the ceiling), crafted my own decor, browsed through magazines for inspiration, was obsessed with Art Attack and Fingertips (I am so curious…who watched them as well?!)…well, I guess you get it. My room has always been my safe haven and a place where I was able to express my creativity.

How I made it mine

So, as you have probably read in the title, my apartment is tiny. And with tiny I mean very tiny. I liked the challenge to make the best out of this little space, to try to make it as cosy yet aery as possible and I feel like I did a pretty good job.

The bed, shelves and desk with the chair were already in the apartment. So, basically all wooden pieces are from me and they were definitely the first step to make that very clean, cold looking room, more welcoming and cosy. I stuck to pretty neutral tones, added some different kinds of wood for accessories, bought a bright rug, added some books and plants and some pictures to really make this space mine.

You can never go wrong with some plants…and some more

It’s not completely finished yet. I’d like to get some curtains but since I can’t drill a hole into the wall, it’s a little more tricky. And of course some more plants (on my plant list for this room: Monstera, more Pothos + some succulents).

But other than that I am pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s small, yes, but I have my own tiny kitchen and bathroom which is great and a big desk which serves as workspace, dining and coffee table all at once.

Boxes and Baskets are your best friends

I have a decent sized closet and so many more hidden options to store things which I am very thankful for. That way it looks nice and clean most of the time. That is definitely one of my biggest tips if you have a very open space. Try to get some cute containers or baskets to store random, maybe not as pretty things. Baskets are also perfect for open shelves to make them look less overwhelming if you know what I mean.

Okay, but now have a look yourself. The golden light that morning was very magical. If you have any questions about any pieces of furniture, decoration etc., leave them in the comment section below and I will make sure to answer them 🙂

I LOVE your page, especially when you showcase your rooms. I also have a very small apartment and I’m struggling with making it a comfortable space. Thanks for the advice on boxes and bookshelves. They really make space for everything else!
